Storms have continued throughout the Shire the last fortnight, seeing some decent rainfalls in some areas. Nyngan itself and just on the outskirts has gotten the best of it and its lovely seeing some green again.
It has been a sad couple of weeks for the community with the loss of several local identities. Val Keighran being one of these, she was a very valued member of our community with her involvement in scouts and a long-time volunteer at the Nyngan Museum and acting member of the uniting church. To the other families in the community who have lost a loved one, we are thinking of you during his sad time.

Council has been approached by the Department of Primary Industries- Fisheries (DPI) with a proposal to stock the new water storage facilities with native species of fish which could be managed as a year-round recreational sports fishery. The DPI will work with Council to explore funding opportunities for the establishment and management of the fishery which could include fish stocking, parking pedestrian gates, paths, trees and shelters, signage and fishing platforms. Council’s decision is to provide in principle a support for the development of draft Memorandum of understanding between the two parties.
After several years of lobbying for the lights on the Hoskin Street rail crossing, Council has received a letter from Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Jenny Aitchison. In her correspondence she has stated that the crossing is a local road, therefore would be unlikely to come under funding from the Government, this being noted, Council would not be able to afford to fund the cost of this project and would like to see the train speed reduced to 20km/hour.
Civil works undertaken recently throughout the Shire consist of upgrades and repairs to the Wool Dump Railway Heritage, commencement of the Teamsters Rest parking extension, fabrication also to begin for the viewing platform for the Teamsters Rest extension, repairs on washouts at the upper weir camping area, installed warning signs for river nature trail, shade sails installed at the Youth and Community Centre, fence extensions carried out at Early Learning Centre, removal of old surface at tennis courts for resurfacing installation and repairs to the damaged fence at the show ground.
Hopefully the rain is shared about the Shire in the next fortnight.
