The NSW Government in partnership with the Federal Government has provided Councils in our region with funding to prepare Drought Resilience Plans. The stated aim of this NSW Government Program is to build capability and empower regional communities to plan and act early to reduce and respond to drought risks.
The program is designed to support the development of drought Plans that consider:
- Growing self-reliance and drought resilience of regional communities including the agricultural sector
- Improving natural capital of agricultural landscapes for better environmental outcomes
- Strengthening the wellbeing and social capital of rural, regional and remote communities.
As part of the process of developing a Plan for the Bogan Shire area, Council is required to form a Regional Skills Based Reference Group comprising representative local community members across one or more of the following categories:
- Business and Investment
- Agriculture and Mining Production
- Infrastructure (roads, water, telecommunications)
- Community Issues
- Community Services (health, education, drought support)
- First Nations Rep
- Community Champion
