It is looking to be a great start to winter with over 100mls of rainfall around parts of the district. Over 70mls of Rain fell the Saturday of the show weekend and the Nyngan Show Committee continued on despite the hurdles and are to be congratulated on another successful show. No doubt the numbers were down due to the weather, but I’m sure all those who attended had a great day out, with some people attending both days.
There is currently a special commission of inquiry being held into health care funding in NSW. On Friday 10th May the Bogan Shire hosted the Commissioner and ten members of the enquiry team. Myself, Deb Wood and Derek Francis met with them at the Bogan Shire Medical Centre which was a great opportunity to display our functional Medical Centre. The meeting outlined the community’s support for the Council in the establishment and future growth of primary health care service in our Shire. We are hoping that the Commission will highlight the desperate need for extra funding in rural areas and to create and improve delivery of more vital services within our communities.
The new women’s amenities at Larkin Oval were used for the first time over the weekend when the Nyngan Tigers took on Orange CYMS in the Rugby League. All reports of the facility were excellent and what an achievement for our Shire to be moving forward for equality and for women to have their own space. This will also be used by Bogan Bulls Rugby Union Women’s Team.
Council will be continuing on with grant funding for footpath replacement and construction works. Currently the corner of Bogan and Tabratong streets is being upgraded, it will then follow onto a section of Mudal street between Cannobar and Warren Street. A 60m section of Wambianna Street will also be upgraded under the funding.
The Nyngan RSL Club Fishing Club and the Bogan Shire Council recently released 14,060 Golden Perch fingerlings into the Bogan River Weir pool on the 19th April 2024. For every dollar contributed by the Council and Nyngan Fishing Club, the NSW Fishing Trust Native Fish Stocking Program Gave a Two-dollar donation bringing the total funding for the project to $12,000.
