What a massive day for Nyngan at the 2024 Duck Creek Races with an estimated crowd of 5000 people attending. From all reports the event was incident free and bad weather held off for the race goers until the following day. Congratulations again to Rowen Cleaver and his hard- working committee which each year better themselves, great work on drawing that many people to Nyngan.
I would like to offer a huge congratulations and also on behalf of the Nyngan community, to Jack Hargreaves who once again has made the selection for the Olympic Games 2024 for rowing.
What a massive achievement for a Nyngan boy! I’m quite sure proud Mum and Dad, Peter and Jenny Hargreaves, will be there to cheer you on for us all. If you haven’t been to Jack Hargreaves Park at the river you should take the time to get down and see the new sign that has been manufactured by local business Hawley Engineering and erected by Council. It is a great memento to Jack and his family.
On Tuesday 15th July 2024, Roy Butler and NSW Roads and Transport Minister the Hon. Jenny Aitchison met with myself, Derek Francis and Graeme Bourke to discuss the crossing at Monkey Bridge. The Minister said she will endeavour to pursue better outcomes as the current suggestion to remove the crossing does not make sense. The Minister has also advised us to write to several other Government Departments about the matter. We also discussed yet again the Hoskins Street level crossing, which has been on the agenda for several years now. We have previously taken the crossing matter up with past Premiers, Deputy Premiers and several Ministers, the majority of whom have been sympathetic and taken up the cause for us, and yet
the crossing still remains unchanged. The Minister explained there is a backlog of level crossing updates to be completed and the funding is in very tight supply so we have asked that the current speed limit for the trains of 80km an hour be reduced back to 50km an hour for safety.
We will continue to argue that this ridiculous situation is remedied with either lights or gates. Another topic raised with the Minister was the condition of the Tottenham Road. Council are preparing a report to highlight the areas of need to hopefully find funding packages in the future to upgrade the road to the standard it needs to be for the amount of traffic that use it.
Nyngan Waste Facility Recycling Shed has opened at the Waste and Resource Management Facility (tip), with the shed being built for items too good for landfill to be used for rehoming.
Items such as bicycles, lawnmowers, furniture, and sporting equipment are just some of the items that may be available. Community members are able to visit the shed during tip opening hours. Community members who find something they like can make a donation amount of their choosing to the Nyngan Can Assist branch.
Over the last few months staffing levels at The Nyngan Multi-Purpose Service (Hospital) have improved which has seen some reopening of some beds and the issue of our elderly being cared for in other towns has thankfully changed. I would like to express my gratitude to Roy Butler and others who have helped improve the situation and also to Jenny Griffiths from NSW Western Area Health for her commitment to achieve this outcome.
