The Nyngan Ag Expo was a great family day out and the weather was perfect. It bought over 3,000 people to Nyngan for the day - what a fantastic job by the committee. Congratulations on another successful Expo.
The Skate Park in Nyngan revamp is well and truly underway. The new installation will double the area in size and will include quarter pipes of varying sizes, wall, spine, three A frames, two moguls, curved rails, flat bars and ledges and a rainbow rail. The original cement slab will be the original part kept and will be painted blue to resemble water. Council will also install a garden bed in the centre of the park as a safety barrier around the central shade sail pole. The upgrade was part of a NSW government grant and the work has been carried out by a Melbourne based skate park business that specialise in skate park designs.
The Nyngan Swimming pool repairs are almost complete in time for the spring pool season opening. Scott Bartley will once again be the pool manager for the 2024 season.
Council has appointed a new Manager Children’s Services to manage both the Early Learning Centre and the Bogan Bush Mobile. The new Manager, who is also a registered nurse and comes to the Service with lots of knowledge and experience for the benefit our kids. Her official start date will be Monday 2nd September, and we wish her all the best with the move, and welcome her to our wonderful town.
I attended the Country Mayors Association meeting in Sydney on Friday 9th August. A major topic of the day was the health crisis across the country and doctor shortages. A representative from the Rural Doctors Network spoke about the change to funding they normally receive which will be pretty much redirected to metropolitan areas and will have a devastating impact on our regional and rural health. Even with the incentives being offered to lure doctors to rural areas, it is only a short-term fix and does not help in securing doctors to practice in rural areas long term. However, the Bogan Shire Medical Centre continues to be well-supported by doctors that Council has agreements with to provide medical services to our community.
Another topic discussed by the Assistant Police Commissioner was low numbers of police graduating and the incentives being offered to boost the numbers of police officers. Also discussed was the change in the bail law for reoffenders and youth crime and seeing a positive outcome specifically in crime hot spot areas within the state. A major criminal activity throughout the state has also been brought to light concerning the illegal supply and distribution of tobacco.
