LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS
The NSW Electoral Commission will be conducting a Local Government election for Bogan Shire councillors on Saturday 14 September. Voting is compulsory for all enrolled residents aged 18 and over. Residents not able to vote on September 14 will also be able to lodge a pre poll vote from Monday 9 September to Friday 13 September at the Bogan Shire Council offices at 81 Cobar Street, Nyngan. Electors who are blind or have low vision are eligible for telephone assisted voting during this period.

RATES AND WATER
Annual Rate Notices for 2024/2025 have been issued and the first instalments were due for payment on 31 August. Water accounts issued for the June 2024 quarter are now overdue for payment. Please contact Council as soon as possible if you are having difficulties making your rates or water payments so arrangements may be entered into. If ratepayers do not make contact, they may be referred to a debt recovery agent and further fees and charges added to the account.
All overdue payments also incur an interest charge of 10.5 percent, calculated daily. Council may also install flow restrictors to water meters for ratepayers with overdue water accounts. This is a last resort option. Payments can be made in person by cash, cheque and eftpos at Council between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday. Customers can also use bpay, direct debit, credit card, or deductions from Centrelink. Please contact Council if you wish to discuss any of these options further.
HAVE YOUR SAY AND SIGN THE PETITION FOR TOTTENHAM ROAD UPGRADE
Council has commenced preparation of a business case to enable the possible upgrade of the Tottenham Road. As part of the preparation for this, Council will be conducting public consultation, details of the initial consultation are shown below.

2025 BOGAN SHIRE SENIORS WEEK SURVEY
We’re inviting the senior citizens of our community to share their input for the 2025 Seniors Week activities. This is an opportunity for community members to have a say in the type of activities to be held to commemorate Seniors Week. The survey is available online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8MGPB2J or the Bogan Shire Library is available to assist anyone who would like to fill out a paper copy.
ESSENTIAL ENERGY TREE TRIMMING
Essential Energy will be conducting tree trimming in and around Nyngan to ensure powerline clearances are maintained. This work will be carried out between Tuesday 3rd September and Friday 13th September 2024.
BIG BOGAN STREET FESTIVAL
Tickets are now available for the Big Bogan Street Festival, which will take place in Nyngan on Saturday, September 28. Tickets are free and are available at www.trybooking.com/CSVPM. Library staff can also book your tickets and have them printed for you to collect, please call on 02 6835 9080.
There is a family-friendly line up of entertainment which includes live performances by the Wolfe Brothers, Baker Boys Band, Chinwag, Jo Hyndes, Bec White, and the Beanies (ABC Kids).There will also be a Best Dressed Bogan Competition with multiple categories and great prizes up for grabs. If your organisation would like to be part of the day, we welcome your ideas and involvement. You can set up a vendor stall, provide a canteen service, services or food catering. Free vendor tents are available, please let us know if you require a tent when booking. YOUTH AND COMMUNITY CENTRE
The BSYCC has drop-in sessions for those aged 12-24 from 3pm-6pm. Please see the Bogan Shire Facebook Page or bsc_youthandcommunitycentre on Instagram for the program of activities on offer throughout September. The Spring Holiday Break dates commence September 30 to October 11.
NYNGAN LIBRARY
The Nyngan Library is currently undergoing a renovation. It will remain open however all September activity sessions including story time and baby time will take place at the BSYCC. Story time: Every Monday and Tuesday 10.30am-11.30am (Please note – no Story Time on Monday 9 September). Baby Time: Every Friday from 11am-12pm. NYNGAN WASTE FACILITY RECYCLING SHED
The recycling shed at the Bogan Shire Waste Facility is now open. Members of the public can visit the shed during Waste Facility opening hours. In return for taking an item you can give a donation to the Nyngan branch of CanAssist. There is a QR code at the site for online donations, or a cash donation can be made at the Bogan Shire Council administration building at 81 Cobar street, Nyngan. Community members can take useful items to the shed but it will incur waste delivery charges (payable by voucher or Eftpos).
NEXT COUNCIL MEETING
Due to the Local Government Election, there will be no ordinary meeting of Council in September. The next ordinary meeting of Council will be held on Thursday 24 October 2024 with a time to be advised. Members of the public are welcome to sit in the visitor gallery at Council meetings (with the exception of during confidential time). Council business papers, minutes and a recording of meetings are available on the website www.bogan.nsw.gov.au or as hard copy at the Nyngan Library.
